If you are to visit the Province of Palawan: Puerto Princesa, El Nido, and Coron - you have to visit Coron last - because Coron is the most beautiful among the many destinations in Palawan.
One of the best 5-days getaways in my life happens in Coron.
Coron is called the "Island of Legends" due to the rich indigenous folklore of the Tagbanwa people, who consider its lakes and caves sacred, believing spirits like the Manlalabyut (a giant sea creature) inhabit them.
Famous for its stunning limestone cliffs, pristine lagoons, world-class wreck diving, crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches, and incredible island-hopping experiences, Coron offers breathtaking scenery, vibrant coral reefs, and unique freshwater lakes.
Day 1 → 2024 August 14, Wednesday.
Diosdado Macapagal International Airport.
We departed Clark at exactly 3:35pm aboard flight PR 2678 bound for Busuanga on a Dehavilland Dash 8 200 39-seater turboprop airplane by operated by Philippine Airlines.

This was the same type of aircraft we boarded to and back from Basco, Batanes.
Francisco B. Reyes Busuanga Airport.
We arrived Busuanga after an hour and twenty minutes of relaxing sleep on a very clam and sunny weather.

This was our first time to visit and explore an island in Palawan.

So me and Gagay, alongside Jeof and his wife Sha Sha were very excited - knowing this travel was almost cancelled due to several concerns and challenges before the date.
Jake's Coron Lodging Home.
A driver fetches us from the Airport to our pre-booked transient house - a very cozy, simply yet elegant house with high ceiling living area.

The kitchen was surprisingly very clean and came with complete kitchen amenities plus even basic ingredients - later we will find out why there's a lot of extras in the kitchen.

And Jake's package came with 2 free scooters for us to roam-around Coron riding and blending with the locals.

All we need to do was fill in with gas in full - then we immediately went on to our first destination - after unloading our stuffs.
Lualhati Park, Coron
A park that is very simple yet lots of locals roaming around and relaxing is located at the Coron Town Proper.

It is also very near the Coron Activity Floating Port - wherein the boat loads and unloads tourist for the island hopping.

All island-hopping tours shall start from this floating beauty in Coron Town.

The sunset view was so dramatic on your left when facing the Kabulauanan Island and Balinsasayaw Reef.

Before the sunset, we managed to quickly visit the Coron Public Market for our dinner and 1st night in Coron, Palawan.

This was our first dinner in Coron - with freshly cooked "guinisang tahong" (sauteed mussels) and "inasinang alimasag" (steamed sea crabs).

This was our way of greatly saving cash - by cooking for ourselves instead of eating outside.
Day 2 → 2024 August 15, Thursday.
Our first morning in Coron was rejuvenating - and our breakfast was also prepared by Gagay and Sha Sha which is very cheap.

Claws of crabs from last night, salted eggs, scrambled egg with crab meat, fried talong, crispy fried fish and danggit, plus freshly cooked steamed rice.

When in getaways, we always try to enjoy the foods that are cheap and not fast-food which is very expensive.
Maquinit Hotspring in Sitio Maquinit, Coron, Palawan.
It is a salt water hot spring pools amidst mangrove forests that is a known destination when in Coron.

But believe it or not, we enjoyed the chirping of many birds that were so amazing outside the parking lot - unfortunately, we were not permitted to fly our drones due to the bird's peace.

And the owner happens to be a wildlife conservation activist and photographer, according to the guard on-duty which happens to be a photo-bomber at the same time (joke!).
Cabu Beach, Coron, Palawan.
This very accessible beach is just 7.8km away from the town proper.

You won't miss to visit this very calm beach when in Coron, Palawan.
Known to the locals as "secret beach" for its pristine condition and budget-friendly cottages.

We swim and wet on the beach, drink beers, and had ample time for more photos and fly our drones.
The beach has a very relaxing vibes with little people and peacefulness all around.
Here's the beautiful beach in birds eye view.
Back to Jake's.
We immediately went back to the house to buy and cook our late lunch.

2nd day late lunch was guinatang yellow fin tuna (tuna in coconut milk) and crispy fried lechon kawali liempo.
We decided to cut short our 2nd day roaming-around to make way for our checking of package tours and planning for more worthy destinations that we might miss when in Coron.

There were lots of options and mix-match packages to choose from - so don't just settle for the easy choice upfront - take time and look for cheaper deals.
Kasadyaan Festival during August.
Unknowingly, we were in Coron during their town fiesta - there were boxing match in the town proper covered basketball court.
There are many locals enjoying and playing on some activities known in Filipinos as "Peryahan", a form local betting games in many forms.
Don't be fooled by playing too much money - a few hundreds of pesos just to taste your luck would be enough.

We bought beers on our way back to the house - it was the 1st time we tasted the redhorse strong variant in mucho (1 liter) bottle - and it was our 2nd night in Coron drinking beers while checking other options while in Coron.
Day 3 → 2024 August 16, Friday.
Our 2nd morning in Coron was filled with excitement and activities - so we opted to take simple breakfast only.

Guinataang tuna pangat (leftovers from yesterday), some fried eggs, and fried longanisa hamonado we found in the market, plus fried rice from last night sinaeng.

By this time, we already acclimatized with Coron as if we were locals - and it was a very nice feeling to achieve the sense of belongingness almost immediately.
Coron Activity Floating Port.
We were already in the meet-up place before the call time of 8am - ready for the ultimate island tours.

The floating port is made of pontoons where all the island-hopping boats are docked.
It was a perfect weather for island hopping although this was in August with expected lots of rains.

Filipinos are trying their best just to feed their families and provide basic needs.
These men are the reason why we are trying our best to promote the local tourism - so that they will have better opportunities than congesting the main cities with much less opportunities.

The boat rides to the first destination were just a few minutes - and it was thrilling for what's to come first.
Coral Garden.
This coral garden was so amazing and well-preserved - this is one of the best coral gardens I've seen in all of the Philippines.

You just need a mask with snorkel, and the beauty of corals beacons you to enjoy.
Skeleton Wreck,
Equally amazing is this 2nd destination - but you need to be a good swimmer to appreciate this sight.

Luckily, there was this store boat approached our boat - and I was pre-occupied by the very cold redhorse in can.
CYC Beach.
Although not as amazing as the corals in coral garden, CYC Beach has almost 100% visibility.

So, the perfect way to fully enjoy this beach is by boarding a glass kayak and paddle around near the beach.

We had taken so many photos and enjoy a lot in the crystal-clear water.
Shaniah Cottage.
When the boat started to come near this hut beside the rocky edge in the western side of Coron Island, everyone was so excited.

We are about to eat there with the foods that was brought along in the boat by the tour organizer - xxxx.

All the people in the boat were served with seafoods, pancit, and fruits - local tourist and foreigners alike joining tables - and devouring all that was available.

Of course, you have to be polite when joined by others that you first met - I ate more the steamed "Alimasag" crabs.
Twin Lagoon.
This was the best destination in the Coron island hopping tour for the ultimate package.

On the map, this place is really 2 lagoons beside each other.

The 2 lagoons are connected by a narrow channel of water passing a cave - and it was epic passing the very short cave between the lagoons.

The rock formations were stunning - there is nothing like it, I guess.

The water was crystal clear and shallow that bigger boats cannot reach the edge of the ridges.

A kayak rides surrounding the 2 lagoons paddled by a boat man was so thrilling - wear sunglasses and sun protection lotion to avoid getting sun burns.
Barracuda Lake.
This 6th destination was perfect for free-divers - this was the place for really getting wet.

According to locals, this lake is connected to the sea in an underground tunnel very difficult to reach without scuba tank - and there could have been barracudas in this lake.

Our boatmen brought with them scuba long fins perfect for free diving going up and down the mid-depth of the lake.

The wooden ladder that goes up and down passing the rocky ridge between the beach and the lake was forgiving.
The depth is about 15 meters to about 60 meters at the middle of the lake with unbelievable water visibility.
The Barracuda Lake is not to be missed when in Coron.
Kayangan Lake.
This final destination and the 7th destination was equally amazing.

The wooded bridge from where the boat ducks, and the wooden stairways passing the rocky ridges was not for those with high in uric acid considering the grueling 200 steps.

It's not for everyone - but the beauty of the lake when seen was equally rewarding - enjoying the view is more than enough.

It is not the lake that makes Kayangan outstanding - it's the combination of everything so awesome.
The approach of the boat alone leading to the wooden docks was epic - it feels like in the movie, Jason and the Argonauts.
From here, we were already satisfied of the ultimate tour - and we find it very cheap because we were able to negotiate the price per head when you are a group of 4 and more.

This 3rd day was the most exciting yet and our dinner was equally exciting too.

Sha Sha and Gagay prepared sinigang na tuna and crispy pata for the most exhausting yet amazing day.

We were right all along - the best food in Coron is cooked by you or your team - because everything is available in the wet market, and it's cheaper to have this kind of set-up.
And a super relaxing massage by Renz (0955 1555 253) tops up the 3rd day in Coron.
Day 4 → 2024 August 17, Saturday.
The 4th day in Corn was really unexpected - we are supposed to check on other destinations that we might missed - little did we know, this day was one of the most unforgettable - and could have been fatal.

Our breakfast for this 4th day is tortang talong, tortang fish leftovers, and a chunk tuna in can in veggie oil.

The activity for this day was exciting too - from our efforts in finding where else we can go in Coron.
Palawan Cashew Company.
Another exciting destination to visit in Coron is the Palawan Cashew Company that is 3km away from Coron Town.

Located in Sitio Dipaculao, this is the processing plant from cashew nuts collected in local farmers in Palawan.

This provides the locals income for their family and keep them stay in their town.
The cashew nuts when finally processed comes in different packaging and flavors.

There is a possible business opportunity with cashew to be resold in other provinces as well - it's easy to contact them.
St. Agustine Parish, Coron.
This parish located on the higher ground of Coron Town was established in 1901 with light materials.

The church was solemnly blessed by Most Rev. Fr. Edgardo S. Juanich, Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay on Palm Sunday of March 24, 2012.

Whenever we visit a town, it has always been our tradition to visit the church and pray for being grateful all the time.
Marcilla Beach.
One of the most pristine destinations in Coron's easternmost side is Marcilla Beach, fronting the Matuya Island.

The beach is almost 100% pristine and still unreachable for mainstream tourist in Coron when we visited it.

Going to Marcilla beach is NOT for the fainted hearts, as locals warned us - it will challenge your will to reach a beautiful place.
The road condition will teach you a lesson you will never forget if you overjoyed.
The pristine condition of Marcilla Beach is what means most to us.
If you visit Coron and miss Marcilla Beach, you missed a lot.
Coron Lobster Pond.
No island getaway is complete without a seafood feast - and when in Coron, it's the only place I have seen with live lobster pond.

We are at an undisclosed location somewhere in Brgy. Kasuyan called TinTin Aquarium.

You can never enter this place without consent to buy from the owners - because this is somehow discrete.
One can feast on lobsters where money talks - it is not cheap but in comparison to other places, it is a bargain.

Cooked with little water and salt, then dipped in soy sauce with chili and peppers.

One medium-size lobster is more than enough for 2 people - unless you will not eat rice - and eat lobsters alone.

This 4th day was thrilling and very much unforgettable in this 5-day getaways in Coron.
Day 5 → 2024 August 18, Sunday.
This 5th day is our last day in Coron Town, and our flight back to Clark is in the early afternoon.

Our breakfast is salted eggs with tomatoes, torta with lobster meat leftovers, pork longanisa, and danggit + fried crispy pusit.

We were a bit excited to go back to realities - sorry for the blurred image.

After breakfast, we roam-around in Coron Town.

And check more unique stuffs in Coron - such as this tricycle that looks like a car.

We also ate halo-halo in Cafe Socorro to relieve us from the sheer heat of the sun that day.

I met there Tatan Fowler, an artist guest at Home Grown Tattoo Shop - unfortunately, his service is already fully booked in Coron that time.

Ma'am Ruth, the owner of Jake's Coron Lodging Home, was kind enough to allow us to ride to the airport and meet her there together with her kids.

At the airport, it was to our disbelief that we were able to successfully explore and enjoy Coron, Palawan.

The great experience in Coron will bring us back anytime soon, to experience it again.

The plane that took us here 5 days ago was the same plane that flew us back to Clark, Pampanga.

We were safely back in Clark, Pampanga after a little over an hour of safe flight.

The kids met us at SM Clark to have dinner with us and celebrating a successful 5-day Coron Getaways.

What we did was a bit cheaper than the normal getaways - by staying in a house, riding in scooters, eating foods that we cook, and enjoying together.
Why Coron is a must-have to visit?
It was the total freedom to roam-around and blending with the locals - the public wet market, food stalls, the park, the lakes, the rocky formations and ridges that are beyond disbelief, and the pool of lobsters.
The island ultimate package tour was equally surprising, and truly amazing - the snorkeling, kayaking, eating, and drone flying was epic.
Byahe lang..!
